Nor did they take time to confirm back with you on their expectations and start judging you on the basis of how well your website is made.

Some of the quality websites that remain updated takes hours to make and are made with intense focus on the communication!

Whilst, some are made for a simple reason that there should be a website that talks about you, your services, products, customers and what not.

Then again, there are the transaction supportive business platforms that are mistaken for website, though are hosted and managed in much the same way.

These could your business applications; these could your website that just runs a shopping platform, a community or whatever it can be.

Ever wondered how many types and classifications of business application exist?

Well to be honest, there are no defined systems of classifying a website.

Last week, my friend, Betty asked me a shocking question. “What’s the big deal about content management?”I nearly choked on my cheeseburger! After all, Content Management Systems are king. If you don’t think so, consider this. Your business must produce and sustain fresh content; interesting content; well organized, well-conceived content for every type of online presence. Whether you sell services or products, whether you have a shopping cart, a media or association site, a software product, a game, or a social media presence, content is very important to your business bottom line.

Take my company, for example. We use Content Management Systems (CMS) to manage our team collaboration and file taxonomy for documents. We also use it to manage our partner and supplier sites, as well as content for our events, products, PR, and other critical information.

My friend Roland sells football memorabilia. Last year, Roland signed up to do a holiday sale at a local community center. When he got the venue, he found that none of the prospective customers wanted his products. The event had been advertised as a ‘handicraft’ show, featuring hand knit baby sweaters, handmade aprons, blown glass tree ornaments, etc. Roland didn’t sell any football memorabilia that day

Why am I telling you this story? To prove the adage, ‘Know your audience’. That adage applies to any kind of customer, including an eCommerce client! If you are launching, migrating or upgrading an eCommerce site, you must design a site to attract and retain your target audience.
